Sky Bar Roof Top Restaurant

Sky Bar

Sky Bar is a rooftop restaurant located above a hotel in Kolhapur, India. The main feature is a parametric ceiling made of 20521 recycled paper tubes suspended from a fabricated frame. The paper tubes refer to the textile mills of the region, where similar tubes are used to roll fabric. The tubes move with the natural breeze and form wave-like patterns. A white swirl on the ceiling recalls this effect, with stacked light coves that rise from low to high like a revolving staircase. The swirl also shapes the walls and the floor. Flowing lines cover the walls, with gold and silver accents that twist into forms recalling rolled leaves. Materials include stone, acoustic panels, plastic laminate, carpet and gypsum board.

Three fixed steel columns of the former metal house are concealed by arc forms that echo the facade. A hand-drawn painting of a warrior holding a wine bottle marks the main wall, and old southern pine lumber is kept.
