The Song of Whales and Sea
The Song of Whales and Sea is a steak restaurant interior covering 600 square meters in Taichung, Taiwan. The L-shaped building surrounds an outdoor landscape with a pool and plants, forming a city oasis. Wide clear glass gives the dining booths open views of the garden. Curves appear throughout the space, including rounded woodwork corners, a curved ceiling and streamlined booth seats. Golden lighting fixtures recall rising bubbles, and laser engraved screens suggest swaying seaweed. The kitchen sits at the corner, so the booths spread outward for smooth movement.
The Song of Whales and Sea Restaurant by Yu-Ting Chang has been recognized as a grand example of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. The Song of Whales and Sea Restaurant won the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2020. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design competition which honors outstanding design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
