Monochrome House
Monochrome House is a residential interior design for a three-story house of 224 square meters in Yunlin, Taiwan. Living areas, the master bedroom and a children's room are placed on the first, second and third floors. Clean lines shape the framework, and black is used as the base tone with gray, white and wood colors. Art paint, grilles, fabric and black glass add texture within a limited budget. A custom L-shaped kitchen sits in the rear block, and an aluminum sliding door lets the kitchen open or close. Cabinets set below a low beam form a dressing area.
Monochrome House Residential by Charmilles Zhao has been selected as an exceptional representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Monochrome House Residential earned the Iron A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2025. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design award which celebrates superior design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
