Chasing Light
Chasing Light is the interior design of a three-floor single family house in Taiwan. The house is over 40 years old and has a long and narrow layout with poor lighting and ventilation. The renovation places the main living areas where natural daylight reaches, and the unlit middle part of the second floor holds a bathroom and storage. A transparent corrugated plate forms a semi-open roof on the third floor. Glass, perforated iron panels and light-colored surfaces spread daylight across each level. A built-in garage on the first floor solves a long-standing parking problem.
Chasing Light Residence by Yu-Nan Hou was highlighted as an innovative representation of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. Chasing Light Residence was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2023. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design accolade which rewards exceptional design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
