The Essence
The Essence is a residential interior design for an apartment in Taiwan. A large beam crosses the apartment at a height of less than 210 centimetres. Both sides of the beam are covered with large zebra wood, with titanium-plated metal at the bottom, turning the beam into a focal point. The ceiling meets the beam through oblique angles and curves, which extends the view upward and makes the space appear broader. A long table serves as both a living and a dining area. Most storage is placed in the private rooms, and hidden cabinets keep the shared space simple.
The Essence Residence by KAO SHIH CHIEH has been selected as a creative example of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. The Essence Residence earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2022. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design award which celebrates outstanding design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
